The 24th International ICID Congress in Adelaide, Australia, played host to an important milestone for both Rubicon and Uzbekistan in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Rubicon Water.
Compounding issues around the sustainability of water supply in the Aral Sea and increasing water scarcity threats throughout Uzbekistan are driving the need for remediated action to improve the management of the country’s water resources.
The Ministry of Water Resources has acknowledged the similar issues faced in Australia’s Murray-Darling Basin during the Millennium Drought and is exploring the modernisation strategies that Australia leveraged to address water scarcity.
The signing of the MOU is on the back of the successful pilot project installed on the Mirishkor-Kamashi Canal in Uzbekistan earlier this year. The project involved the installation of 26 automated control gates, along with remote management software and communications infrastructure. The pilot enables the precise distribution of water throughout the automated system, showcasing the potential of a larger Network Control solution in managing water deliveries to improve efficiency and support a reliable water supply to irrigators.
“We’ve had great engagement with the representatives from the Ministry of Water and foresee significant potential for our technology to make a substantial difference for irrigated agriculture in Uzbekistan,” said Rubicon’s CEO, Bruce Rodgerson.
The MoU represents a joint commitment to develop a modernisation plan for the country’s irrigation landscape and dedication to ensure that our technology can alleviate the increasing water management issues experienced within Uzbekistan.
